Every morning around 7 o'clock, I go to Sophia's room to wake her up for her "breakfest". Most of time she is awake already, but is still lying on her bed. Upon I open the door, she sits right up, and gives me a fly-kiss. That's her greeting to me every morning.

I wonder how she learned about this way of greeting. The day care provider, Veronica, taught her to say goodbye by doing fly-kiss, and Sophia leaned to do that correctly before she turned one year old. She even konws to do that when I am going to dump the trash and so standing in front of the door.

And yet, to her fly-kiss is not just for goodbye, it's also for greeting. I wonder how this evolved in her brain, because I know Veronica didn't teach her to do fly-kiss for greeting.

This morning I also gave her a fly-kiss when she did so. She smiled deeply back to me as if she finally got a proper response from me.

During work, I sometimes remember her fly-kiss in the morning, and I smile. What a proper and wonderful way of greeting for a small baby like her, who does not speak yet, but wants to show you her happiness seeing you.
